Getting signal notifications on your screen
Browser alerts pop up the moment a signal fires, even with the tab closed. They're a free subscriber perk, enabled once per device in about two minutes. This guide walks through setup, then gives exact Mac, Windows, and browser checklists for the handful of system settings that can silently swallow notifications. Every item below comes from a real support session; if an alert isn't showing, your answer is on this page.
Two-minute setup, any device
On the Signals section, click “Enable browser alerts” next to the live-tape heading (or the “Email + Browser Alert” chip in the signup card).
Enter the email you subscribed with. We send a 6-digit code. Grab it from your inbox (peek at spam once) and click Verify & enable.
Your browser asks permission. Click Allow. No popup? Look for a small bell or lock icon at the right end of the address bar; the prompt may be tucked in there.
Each computer is enabled separately, so do the same once on any other machine where you want alerts. Disabling is the same button, one click.
Nothing popping up? Find your case
Three different problems look identical from the outside. Match your symptom:
The page couldn't finish its notification setup, almost always an ad-blocker, privacy extension, or antivirus “web protection” interfering. See Blockers.
The browser's site-level permission is off, or the prompt was quietly suppressed. See your browser.
Mac checklist
Work top to bottom: each item has silently hidden notifications for a real user.
- Chrome is allowed to notify: System Settings → Notifications → Google Chrome
→ “Allow notifications” ON, alert style Banners or Alerts.
macOS occasionally flips this toggle off on its own after updates. If alerts stop working someday, check here first. - Relaunch the browser after changing that setting: quit fully (⌘Q) and reopen. Browsers register with macOS notifications at launch; mid-session changes don't take.
- Sharing or mirroring your screen? macOS holds all banners while presenting. Enable “Allow notifications when mirroring or sharing the display” in the same pane; it applies from the next sharing session. Held alerts stack in Notification Center (click the menu-bar clock).
- “Summarize notifications” is OFF for your browser: if it's in a Scheduled Summary, macOS quietly defers alerts into a digest instead of showing them live.
- Focus / Do Not Disturb is off: a moon icon in the menu bar means banners are muted. Either turn Focus off or add your browser to that Focus's allowed apps.
Windows checklist
- Master switch on: Settings → System → Notifications → “Notifications” ON.
- Your browser is allowed in the app list on that same page.
Don't see Chrome/Edge listed? That's normal: Windows only adds an app after its first notification. Finish the enable flow and it appears automatically; there is nothing to add manually. - Do Not Disturb / Focus off: Settings → System → Focus, or the moon icon in Quick Settings (Win+A). Focus sessions silence everything by default.
- Restart the browser after changing Windows notification settings.

Blockers that break setup silently
These stop the bell from ever appearing (Case A). The page needs to load a small background script (a “service worker”) and reach our notification service, and these tools can block both:
- Ad-blockers & privacy extensions (uBlock, AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, Privacy Badger…): pause them for suryai.ai, hard-refresh (Ctrl/⌘+Shift+R), try again. If that fixes it, add suryai.ai to the extension's allow-list.
- Antivirus “web protection” (Kaspersky, Avast, AVG, Bitdefender…): their HTTPS scanning can strip background scripts. Add suryai.ai as a trusted site.
- Strict cookie settings: “Block all cookies” also blocks the background script's storage. Use the default cookie mode, or allow suryai.ai specifically.
- Corporate networks / VPNs can block push delivery (Google's push service, ports 5228–5230). Alerts will arrive once you're off the restricted network.
Good to know
- Your browser must be running to display alerts; any window works, no tab needed. Missed notifications wait and arrive when the browser next connects.
- Repeats of the same alert collapse into one notification. This is deliberate, so nothing double-stacks.
- Alerts are per-device, and unsubscribing from emails stops browser alerts everywhere too.
- We send only what you subscribed to: entry & exit signals, plus an occasional research digest. No marketing, ever.
